You're Gonna Miss This

DSC_3225

As I was walking through the house the other day, I took a long glance once again at this picture that I had taken of my two youngest children. The looks on both of their faces say it all. It is a constant mischievous frenzy around my house...but I love it in a crazy way. I believe the country artist Trace Adkins sings a song right now called "You're Gonna Miss This," and he sings of the growth of a child from beginning to end. It's a song that will make any parent think, and hopefully the child too. The laughter and constant picking of a child will cease one day and be replaced with sober, serious thoughts and smiles may not come as often as they once had. So that is why we are focused at the Davis House to embrace each moment, shake off the little stuff, laugh instead of fret, and hold on to these memories as long as we are living in them. That is it, living memories are what we have in the present. I encourage you to seize a moment in time, turn a beginning argument into a savoring moment. This may take swallowing some pride on your behalf. Not having to be right every time....who cares.

To Tristan and Malachi, my two youngest children.....you drive me nuts!!! lol :), but Daddy was half way there before you ever graced my presence with your beauty and mischievousness....which I take credit myself for the majority of (I'll let you pick which of the two I am referring too..lol!)

Deep Concentration

                           Malachi and hammer

I love this picture of my Bigman. He has always stuck his tongue out when he is concentrating on something. Though this picture is a few years old, I cannot help but to smile every time I see it. Hat backwards, tongue out, and ready for business.

The Greatest Warrrior

Billy #2

Wow, typepad is really acting strange today......oh well. With Memorial Day coming up and all, I was looking through pictures and thought I would post one of my Dad when he served in the military. I, in my life at the present, am older than my father in this picture. It's funny to think of how time changes us all and how the role shift happens between parents and children.

I want to thank all that are serving in the Armed Forces in the present and also for those that have served in the past. I thought of this years ago and I find it fitting to mention once again in this timely fashion, there once was a Warrior that went to battle for the souls of creation and took on every evil that was present with purity in His heart and came out the Victor with His blood spilled upon a holy cause. His name, Jesus.

Though there may be fire in the skies and the sound of turmoil in the distant hills of each life that reads this, there must be one truth that we all reflect upon in times of need...the battle has already been won. Across a Warriors lips, just before He drew his last breath, for each and every soul that will cling to this truth, He uttered the good news that your battle has been waiting on...."It is finished."

On this Memorial Day weekend, take the time to reflect on the One that went to war for you before you ever drew your first breath or took your first step upon soil that was created through Him and Him alone. The greatest One that ever fought for your heart and soul, remember the Holy One...Jesus.

Late Night Blabbering

                          60071_lg

It's been a while...time for a Sammy picture. Not to say that I am sitting at the computer while everyone else is asleep. Sometimes this time is better than other things that you could be doing...reading and such. Just a mellow time of the evening. My oldest brother knows this time of the evening all too well. I think of him often, especially when it's late and I am alone. I would guess that this would be a time in his day when he would do a lot of reflecting and when there he would find a peace on earth just for a moment. I have learned a lot from my brother, simply just watching and certainly listening.

I know this post was about Sammy, but Sammy is definitely about reflecting and music which leads me to my brother Mike. I miss you Man, and I think that we will always be connected that way. Bring it back south soon!

Thoughts of a Doodlebug

                            Potterhousetristan151_copy

Ah, what can I say about my "Doodlebug?" The middle child, beautiful yet hard to define. The one out of the three that will surprise me on what adult I think that she will become (in a good way..lol). When I look into her eyes I am lost for words. I see so much, but am not able to explain it.....again in a good way. Her birthday is 8 days from mine and this year she will add one more wrinkle to the face of her Daddy. She turns 13 this August. So....that makes one that just turned 16, one that will turn 13, and one that keeps my youth with a bit of a pulse...my son who will turn simply 8 this summer.

Tristan is a blend of her Mom and Dad, a cookie cut-out of her Mom with a splash of her Daddy somewhere on the inside. I pray that I am not here to see the final chapter of her life written, but thumbing through the chapters that are already writ gives me a smile of the ones to come. Just thinking about you today Doodlebug.

Sobering Thoughts, Soft Embraces, Warm Tears

                            Billy_2_005

Today was my Daddy's birthday. This August will be 3 years since he passed away and I cannot help for today to be flooded with thoughts of him. Little things about Daddy came to me in my mind as I shared coffee with my wife this morning on the porch. You really do not know how the missing of someone will effect you till they are gone from your touch, your sight, your sense of smell. I can remember my Daddy wearing the cologne Brut, the way he walked, the hanky he carried in his pocket, the way his cigarettes never bothered me even though I was not a smoker and others smoke I really could not stand. What I would give to simply see him from afar.

I can remember in years past forgetting Daddy's birthday and calling him to say that I was sorry. Now, this day comes to me ever so slowly and leaves with a lingering good bye. I know that sorrow is a true feeling that we all must experience, but it must be taken in like a mature wine and released with sobering thoughts, soft embraces, and warm tears. I am haunted with memories past...

A Bitter Sweet Hurt of a Father

                            Alexmatthew25

Sometimes you  miss the things that are so obvious, like your children growing up, time with the loving wife,......MISSPELLING IN THE LAST POST!!! I am OK now, whew...lol! Funny how you have loving friends that love you in a way to not say anything. Gee, hope I am not in town one day with one of you and God forbid I have a booger on the edge of my nose....lol!!!

Anyway, I thought that to be a good way of laughing the last post off ( though it was insightful) and to share with you pictures from a month ago when my daughter went on her first "car"   flatbed pick up truck, prom date. Oh my gosh, that does sound redneck and Jeff Foxworthy would have a "hoot." See, there I go again! I grilled the boy till I knew everything about him, and then released my little lady to go dancing for the evening.

                           Alexmatthew15

My Baby has always had this little light in the bottom of her left eye. I can remember holding her for the first time and thinking how amazingly beautiful she was. She has a light in her that burns strongly against the fiercest of winds, and it's nothing that I have done to inspire such. I know that it from our Heavenly Father above, and each gift needs to be appreciated in the light of it.

                         Alexmatthew28

Her Momma is the Bomb when it comes to doing any hair. We came from the 80's big hair days, but my wife has transcended lovely and is a wonder with a pick and a can of hairspray! Now this look that is on my daughter's face, is the one of my little girl. When she looks up at her Daddy with those brown eyes....she melts my heart. I thought it was just a saying, but it happens. And It will happen two other times with my youngest daughter and son. She is more than I will ever be, and I am happy with that.

                         Alexmatthew35

"The arm, not the waist!!!" That is the way that I like it says Poppa Bear....hee hee :)  It is going to be a given that her beauty will outshine those closest to her...."Alright that is close enough!"

                      Alexmatthew70_2

Then off she went in a Flatbed Ford........................ :(

                         Alexmatthew75

Memories are not clear sometimes like the vision of her face, but the feeling comes rushing back as if it were yesterday.......... a bitter sweet hurt of a father.

Reproduced Redemption...To Be Continued

One of my "Blog Buddies" had a quote on her blog and it spawned thoughts inside my head. I thought it fitting to share with you my thoughts today. Here is her posted quote followed by my thoughts afterward. Your comments are welcomed and enjoyed after reading this post. Have a great day! And thanks Linda for your friendship...

"The only true currency in this bankrupt world...is what you share with someone else when you're uncool."~ Lester Bangs

I totally agree with this world being bankrupt, for somewhere along the journey our appetites have led us astray and fed us a lie of what is true hunger and a genuine filling. How am I to pass on truth from the truth that is being taught today? The reproduction of redemption has taken us farther from what is pure, and has left us penniless. Yet, when all has been spent, and our hands and hearts are left void, only then can we find the unadulterated words that our soul longs to hear. And within those words we shall find what we cannot with our hands to fill an empty heart." ~ Joey Davis

"Play Ball!"

                            Dsc_3852

Got some great shots of my #1 son playing ball the other day. Boy, he makes his Daddy proud!!! It's fun to watch this age play. Usually, if your team can hit you can pretty much win the game. Defense is no ones strong side, that usually develops a bit later on. At least at this age, when a grounder is hit the infield does not clear out in a chase to see who can get to it first! That is so funny to see in tee-ball!

                          Dsc_3855

I love the way my son sticks his little tongue out when he is concentrating on something...this time it's running! He is just like his Momma...in some ways...lol!

                         Dsc_3859

My boy is built for football, but if he gets that bat on that ball......WATCH OUT!!! Check out that Davis butt. Look at the dust under the feet of the little guy in the air...he missed it! Sorry Charley!

                             Dsc_3812

Did I also mention that he has a cannon for an arm! And very accurate too! I did not have the size as a kid that my son has, but I threw strikes down the ol' pipe as a pitcher. I think I am going to work with him on pitching. I cannot wait to get a catchers mit and spend time in the yard with my buddy. This time of year I can smell the wild onions being cut in the yards, feel the cool breeze in the air and what I hear in my mind is one thing, 'Play ball!"
